I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (NC, #13800; SC,#3568), Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (SC, #4605) and Board-Certified Music Therapist (#01781, CBMT) specializing in creative counseling services for all ages. I currently maintain a independent private practice in Waynesville, NC. I received a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of South Carolina, a Master of Music in Music Therapy from Florida State University, and a Master's degree in Behavior Disorders from the University of Georgia. In addition to my work in private practice, I have experience as a School Counselor at the elementary and middle school levels, and I have taught in the graduate counseling program at Webster University for over 20 years.
I believe it is the counselor's responsibility to respect the integrity and promote the growth and welfare of each client. I expect the client to take an active role in the counseling process and to maintain open and ongoing communication regarding both positive and negative reactions to the treatment program. I use a combination of Client-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Insight Therapy based on the goals and issues of individual clients. As a Board-Certified Music Therapist I frequently use an expressive-arts modality within my counseling practice. A specialty area is my work as a practitioner of the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music.
